Passion For Fashion

The world is full of passion. People obsess, appreciate, love, are driven, are weak for something specific that differentiates them from everyone else. Pop culture is in our everyday life, everywhere so everyone has to be drawn to something in a way. My Krytonite is fashion. I am constantly distracted by it. Although, as a girl, this seems to be stereotypical of me but I do not admire clothes because they are “so cute! Omg!” or because the pair of shoes someone is wearing are the new Yeezy Boost 250’s. I am constantly distracted while walking to class looking at what different people are wearing on campus, and also while I am out with my friends. I do not look at anyone in judgment at their outfit choices but admiring.  I idolize and respect true fashion based off the individuals style as well as my own. I love to look at an individuals style and see their personality through it, as well as someone being true to who they are and not being scared or embarrassed to wear something. Fashion as well as style gives people confidence because it allows someone to express him or herself without having to say anything, to a certain extent.  I believe that people should dress how they want, when they want. The world is surrounded by fashion, whether one thinks that is stereotypical or they think, like me, and look at it as art.  I look at designers as the Gods of fashion and the creators of works of art. I may not be able to afford high-class designer clothes but I do love looking at it, and understanding what the artist/designer was thinking when making it. I love high fashion because I look at it as art but I also like everyday clothes because I think they are more meaningful to me.

I feel like I am typically a good person to go to when it comes to needing fashion advice.  I always give my friends advice based off their style and not mine. I dress the way I feel, or based off what I want to wear when I want to wear it.  This began for me when I was about a junior in high school. I always wore sweat pants and dressed comfortably but then slowly I started watching E! News on television and Fashion Police, and became drawn to it. I dress completely different now than I did in high school; my style has always reflected how I feel and who I am. For example, in high school I loved dressing in sweat pants and sneakers, and now I wear that when I feel like being comfortable like when I am studying or staying at home. My favorite category in fashion is shoes. I own over 50 pairs of shoes, and I regularly wear all of them. I mostly own heels but I also own a lot of sneakers, mostly from my high school years. As my mother would say “You can never own enough shoes”. Shoes are my form of style that expresses how I am feeling. I will wear my cowboy boots when I feel like having a lot of fun at a social event, and I will wear my clogs when I want to be comfortable but also feel a little dull. I have almost every shoe you can think of due to the fact that I fall in love with shoes constantly and if the price is reasonable I will more than likely purchase them.

I discover new trends, and new clothes through blogs, magazines, television, and social media. I normally look over blogs after different Fashion Weeks around the world or at specific designers seasonal shows just to see the latest looks from different places and peoples. I am intrigued by the locations and the themes of the shows that designers choose.  For example, Chanel had their seasons fashion show in Cuba of a large sidewalk in the middle of the City. I enjoy all types of fashion whether it is men’s clothes, or work out clothes. I think fashion surrounds everyone even if someone does not think they enjoy fashion it can be expressed in different ways. An example of this would be when boys that play football talk about other teams uniforms that they like or dislike. They may not think about it as fashion but it is. The uniform represents the team and the players and boys critique one another’s uniforms as well as their own because they care about what they are wearing. Again, what someone wears is a form of self-expression. Everything is based off clothing and not a lot of people really think about the purpose behind specific pieces of clothing. Uniforms for work, practice, an interview, or rushing a fraternity or sorority are all expressions of ones self to other people at a first glance. Sometimes this can be rude and stereotypical when people judge others off their appearance, but I also feel like when people judge someone on their appearance than they are definitely insecure about something or are stereotypical which is not the way I feel when I look at the way someone is dressed.

In conclusion, I idolize the world of fashion whether it is the lifestyle of fashion and the energy of the runways and new designs coming out regularly, or it is my classmate with an interesting ensemble sitting next to me or, the sports team I am watching on television. As I have made clear, I strongly believe that fashion is about personality, not just about external appearance. Fashion does not have to be beautiful, or trendy but about the individual and the message being sent. Average people express themselves everyday through what they choose to wear that morning when they get dressed. I wake up every morning, and without thought put on my work out clothes and go to class but this is not because I disapprove of wearing anything else to class but because I want to be comfortable in class and I normally work out after class, but when I go out I want to express myself as full as possible and will wear something more interesting.
